چکیده
AUGUST 2009 I CATARACT & REFRACTIVE SURGERY TODAY I 39 T he safety and efficacy of endoscopic cyclophotocoagulation (ECP) for lowering IOP has been confirmed by several long-term studies.1-3 Because this technology allows the surgeon to visualize and apply diode laser energy directly and precisely to the ciliary processes, it is less likely to produce the pain, inflammation, hypotony, and visual loss that can occur with transscleral cycloablation. In addition, ECP’s intraocular approach allows surgeons to combine this ablative procedure with phacoemulsification, thus lowering IOP and reducing the need for medications in patients with cataracts and medically controlled glaucoma. This article describes the surgical technique of ECP and provides pearls for its use in combined procedures.

Cataract Surgery in Eyes with Previous Glaucoma Surgery: Pearls and Pitfalls
The problem of cataract management in the patients of glaucoma who have undergone fltering surgery is a challenging proposition for any surgeon, as the surgery can lead to several complications in the already compromised eye. As glaucoma requires lifelong management, the development of cataract is a significant concern because its treatment may lead to loss of intraocular pressure (IOP) control...

Background: Glaucoma is a progressive optic neuropathy and is one of the leading causes of blindness worldwide. Different factors have been contributed in the pathogenesis of glaucoma including H. pylori infection. Objective: To determine the levels of anti-H. pylori IgG antibody in the aqueous humor of patients with pseudoexfoliation and primary open angle glaucoma, in comparison with age and ...

Coexisting glaucoma and cataract is a common eye disorder in elderly population. Recent advances in the management of patients with coexisting cataract and glaucoma offer a promising alternative in patients with uncontrolled glaucoma and a cataract and provide an individualized treatment depending upon patient's characteristics and intraocular pressure (IOP). Based on many significant studies t...
متن کاملRisk factors for vitreous loss in cataract surgery.
PURPOSE To evaluate the risk factors for posterior capsule rupture with or without vitreous loss (PCR +/- VL) in extracapsular cataract extraction (ECCE). METHODS The charts of 2794 consecutive patients who had ECCE with or without intraocular lens implantation between January 1992 and December 1997 were reviewed retrospectively. Probable risk factors included age, sex, operated eye (right or...
متن کاملSequelae of neglected senile cataract.
Cataract is the most common cause of blindness in the world. An attack of phacolytic and phacomorphic glaucoma as a result of neglected cataract constitutes a medical emergency that must be addressed immediately. Ocular emergencies such as these is challenging for the surgeon with guarded or poor prognosis. We describe the presentation, management and prognosis of three cases of phacomorphic an...
